Jenny looks at you as if relieved. “I think it worked.”

You feel different, and you’re not sure if it’s a good different or a bad different. You give the nurse a cold stare and ask, “Um, what worked?”

“I suppose I can tell you the truth. We think we’ve invented an immortality serum. It works by vastly improving your cells’ ability to regenerate. So, if it works, you could sustain any amount of damage and, within a few seconds, you’ll be good as new.”

You stare at her in confusion and disbelief. “Is this some kind of joke?” The look on her face in response isn’t promising. “Well, I hope you weren’t planning to test it. No way.”

The nurse shifts her weight awkwardly. “Actually…” As she speaks, she slowly reveals the hand she was hiding behind her back. When you see what she’s holding, you panic.

“No! No way! I’m leaving now and I’m calling the cops.” You move toward the door, but Jenny has other plans for you. She aims the gun at you and pulls the trigger. Before you even know what hit you, you drop to the floor and begin to writhe in pain. Hot lead sears your organs and tears through your aorta. Your heart stops, and everything goes black.

Then everything come

s back into focus, you hear the sound of metal clanking to the floor, and you feel your heart start beating again. Your skin tingles as the wound heals and closes. Aside from the hole in your shirt, there is no evidence you were ever even shot. That doesn’t mean you aren’t angry.

Jenny is standing over you, stunned, as if she expected the serum not to work. Suddenly, you throw yourself to your feet and shove Jenny to the floor. You run to the counter, grab the first sharp object you can find, and return to Jenny. In your rage, you don’t even think as you stab Jenny in the leg with the instrument. You mean only to cause her retributive harm, but then you realize that you just stabbed her with a syringe of the serum. You get an idea.

You inject the nurse with the serum. Now, you can punish her however you want, with no consequences.
